It was first believed that 11-year-old, Timea Batts, had finished her first day at Knox Doss Middle School in Hendersonville, Tennessee, when she was shot and had to walk home to tell her father. However, her father, Timothy Batts, recently admitted that
Timothy was arrested by police when officials determined that, in fact, the incident happened inside the home. An affidavit revealed that the father had been asleep inside the home before Timea came home from school. He woke up suddenly when he heard a sound, and got the gun that he keeps under his dresser. He fired a shot at his daughter when she yelled and scared him. He shot her in the torso.
The affidavit also revealed that Batts told officials he removed the gun from the scene and that the weapon is now in Nashville. Batts had originally told detectives that his daughter woke him up to tell him that she had been shot when she got off the school bus. After investigating the incident police said that Batt’s first statement was ‘not truthful.’
